Well, the original thing is played by signing up in the comm and getting card assigned. but sign-ups have been closed once they hit 150 or something, cause it's their first year and they didn't think they'd have that many participants.

it's about writing fics - can be in various fandoms - for the cliche's/tropes on your card, and being proud once you get a 'bingo', i.e. a complete vertical, horizontal or diagonal line of 5 completed prompts. you can also go for a 'double bingo' or a completely filled out card.

we made ours by printing out this list: http://community.livejournal.com/cliche_bingo/1136.html

drawing one slip at random from each category (21 prompts), picking two categories we liked enough to draw a second from (23 prompts) and drawing another two from all the leftover slips.

I then picked the prompt I wanted for the middle lot (in the original comm, that one is 'author's choice'), and then randomly sorted the other slips into the remaining lots.

[wa also cheated a little bit, each discarding about two slips and drawing a new one when we couldn't even say what kind of sliche that one was referring to.]
