Title: Hunts With Wolves
Author: Khana
Fandom: Supernatural/Harry Potter
Pairing: Sam/Remus
Rating: PG-13

Months later, Sam is hunting again, alone now, but someone has to do it, family business and all that. There's a Wendigo here somewhere.

He kind of forgot about the full moon. He never forgot about it before, but, well. It's not before any longer.

Of course he runs into a werewolf and shit, Sam thinks, and raises his gut to shoot the thing. But the wolf just stands there, staring at him with intelligent brown eyes, and then it lies down, rolls onto its back and bares its throat to Sam.

Huh.

Sam sits down, weapon still on the beast, which turns back onto its belly and seemingly goes to sleep.

Sam sits there, watching the wolf, and at some point, the sun comes up, the moon goes down. The wolf writhes and howls, Sam hears bones cracking and sees fur receding and then there's a man, not a wolf, lying naked on the cold forest ground.

"Thanks", the man murmurs in a British accent, barely audible, and closes his eyes.
Sam's legs are stiff from sitting half the night, but he gets up anyway, groaning, hoists up the man and carries him to the car (Dean's car), so he won't freeze to death.

He's not sure it’s the best idea he's ever had, letting a werewolf sleep in the backseat for half the day, but he's got questions, loads of them, with 'how' at the top of the list.
Sam sits down in the driver's seat, leans his head against the window and dozes off.

When he wakes up, the guy is still sleeping, so he starts the engine, drives to the next diner and gets two coffees to go.

Back in the car, the guy is just waking up, so Sam hands him a pair of pants and a shirt and one of the paper cups. The guy smiles, thanks him and introduces himself as Remus.
"I'm Sam", says Sam, and then they don't talk during breakfast, lunch, whatever it is they are getting at the diner at this hour of the day.

They are still sitting at that table, holding onto their coffee mugs, and finally Sam does ask.

"How do you control it?"
Remus shrugs. "Magic," he says, and Sam nods – makes sense.

Eventually Sam drives Remus to his motel room, where he has his own clothes and money, paying back the few bucks breakfast had cost.

"Thanks for…" Remus says.
Sam nods, "Sure," and thinks of how he still has a Wendigo to hunt in the woods, and how maybe talking to a human being once in a while might actually be a good idea.

He rents the room next to Remus' and then, after getting his things into the room and clearing the car of the rubbish that has collected in the backseat in the weeks he's been on the road (thinking of Dean too much), he knocks on Remus' door.

"Ever been hunting monsters?"
Yes, Remus says, he has, and it makes sense, Sam things, seeing as he does know about magic and all.
"You up for it tonight?" he asks, and then cringes at the double entendre that was so not intended.
But Remus looks at him, just looks, and then he smiles slightly and nods his head, "okay," he says, "What are we hunting?"
"Wendigo," Sam says and thinks that maybe, just maybe, it might really be a good idea, going hunting with someone again.

Days later, lying next to Remus on the squeaky bed, he wonders why he always seems to fall for the monsters. Well, at least this one's tamed. So it might not have been the worst idea ever to pick up that naked guy in the woods. Not at all.
